Using Second Hand Car Parts

If you’ve ever come across the need to have a car part replaced, you will know that buying spare parts in brand new condition costs an absolute fortune. It’s true that manufacturers attempt to reimburse themselves and boost profit margins by charging more than usual for individual car parts. What I mean by this is - if you added up the retail replacement cost of each car part separately, the total you came to at the end of the process would be almost 1.5 times the cost of an actual car, made from those same car parts.

This brings up the question - is it really worth replacing parts with identical new ones? Is it not possible to save money by purchasing second hand, identical car parts? The answer of course is yes - and actually, many more people than you may think currently do this. Recently, I had my car window smashed, and the interior of my door slashed (long story). When I took it in for repair, the brand new manufacturers car park replacement was exactly twice as expensive as another second hand part - which to me looked exactly the same! Clearly, there is a money saving opportunity here.
